Cancellation/Rescheduling of Lessons
We understand that lessons may occasionally be cancelled and will be happy to reschedule as per below policy.
Cancellation By the Student
Students who register for the entire school year may obtain make up lessons for lessons they require to cancel, to a maximum of 3 make up lessons for the lesson year. This includes cancellations due to student illness and emergency. (For students who register in the middle of the school year, the number of make up lessons permittable will be pro-rated based on registration date). Due to the large number of students in the school, it is important that students make every effort to show up to their scheduled lesson time, as the coordination of make up lessons may take some time. Excessive cancellations will both impede the student's progress and place the student's reserved lesson spot at risk.
Students are required to provide a minimum of 8 hours notice for all cancelled lessons.
If the above requirements for cancellation are not met, the student’s account will be charged for that lesson, and the lesson will not bemade up.
In case of illness, and the student provides less than 8 hours notice, the possibility of a make up lesson is left solely to the discretion of the teacher.
Cancellation by Teacher
ll teacher absences or cancellations due to professional obligations, teacher illness, weather, or emergencies, the teacher cancellation will be made up. This does not count towards the make up lesson limit described above.
Students are expected to follow proper etiquette when at the music school, including being respectful and courteous to teachers andstaff. Disruptive and rude behaviour will not be tolerated.
Students are not to enter their classrooms until it is time for their class.
Students are not to bring any food or drink into the classroom area, to avoid the risk of spillage onto classroom/musical equipment.
Student's name should be written on any student belongings (ie books) in case they are inadvertently left in the school. Though we are not responsible for lost or stolen items, we will gladly keep any found items in a lost and found in case something is accidentally left behind.
Students are expected to turn off all electronic gadgets before entering the studio.
In the waiting area, the noise level must be kept to a minimum by children and parents. Parents are requested to not engage in lengthy cell phone conversations in the waiting area, in an effort to minimize any distraction of the students.
Students hands should be clean and nails kept short.
Holidays and Closures
Our calendar has been developed with your schedule in mind! We know that students often travel during school and statutory holidays, and have developed our calendar accordingly.
You can access the 2016-2017 lesson calendar by clicking HERE.
Tuition and fees must be paid post-dated via cheque, automated bank withdrawal, or credit card on the 1st of each month. Lessons not paid by the 1st day of the month which they are due, will be subject to a $20 late fee.
For NSF cheques (non-sufficient funds), a fee of $25 per cheque will be charged to the student's account. Consistently late or unpaid lesson fees will result in the student's removal from the program at the discretion of the school director.
Students must have their own instrument on which they practice material that is taught at weekly lessons. The instrument should be in good working order.
Recitals will be scheduled twice per year (once in the winter, and one at the end of the school year).
Dates and locations will be announced. Student's participation in recitals and competitions is encouraged, as these events play a role in developing key aspects of musicianschip, including confidence building, stage presence and performance skills. Students are encouraged to dress more formally for recitals (and competitions) if possible.
Students are expected to be on time for their lessons, as their lesson time has been reserved for them. If the student is late, they will receive the balance of the time that remains in their time slot for that particular lesson. Students are also expected to bring all necessary material for their lesson, including books, pencils, etc. Lastly, it is important for students to be picked up on time, as we do not provide baby-sitting service after a lesson is over. It is not fair for the school staff to have to wait after classes are dismissed for the student to be picked up.
Two weeks written notice must be sent to the school administration if the student wishes to discontinue lessons before completion of the academic year. Teacher notification is not considered formal notice of withdrawal, but rather the withdrawal notice must be provided to the school administration (director or delegate).
If the student withdraws before the academic year ends, a refund of prepaid fees for lessons paid but not yet received will be given, provided there are no other outstanding charges on the student’s account. If two weeks written notice is not given prior to withdrawal, the student’s account will be reimbursed for any prepaid tuition minus the two weeks.
